We were delightfully surprised with the restaurant. We weren't expecting such a great restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy and elegant.
It was comfortable with nice lighting. Quiet conversations were possible. We later learned that the Gardens of Avila had been voted “The Most Romantic Restaurant in San Luis Obispo”.
The restaurant specializes in classic as well as international dishes. They offer a Chef’s Health & Wellness Menu that features heart smart choices.
Steve ordered their duck, which was served with an apricot sauce and accompanied with fresh vegetables. The servings were generous. Since I don’t cook duck myself, Steve often orders it when we dine out. It was a high compliment when Steve commented that this was the best duck he had ever eaten. I chose Salmon served over mashed potatoes and spinach. It tasted delicious.
We both settled on crème brulee for dessert, which is another favorite that we often choose. The crème brulee was rich and smooth with a nicely torched top. We both enjoyed the brulee. Steve liked it so much that he wandered back for a second crème brulee the next evening while I was enjoying a massage at the resort’s spa.
The wine list was good. Even better though is the restaurant’s corkage policy. The corkage fee is waived for local wines. Pick up a bottle of wine while wine tasting in the area.
The service was attentive. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was fantastic. We think the Gardens of Avila Restaurant is a great San Luis Obispo restaurant and recommend it.
