There’s a great San Luis Obispo restaurant in downtown Cambria called Madeline’s Restaurant. It’s a small, intimate restaurant with only twelve tables sharing space with Cambria Wine Shop.
The restaurant is owned by David Stoothoff. He usually works in the back as chef, but serves the food out front on Mondays when things are slower. Joseph, the other chef, did a great job in the kitchen and we felt fortunate to get to know the owner.
The restaurant is named after his daughter, Madeline. David has owned the restaurant for more than two years. He’s a friendly guy and we enjoyed chatting with him.
He’s knowledgeable about both food and wine. He recommended the Brochelle 2003 Zinfandel to go with our meal. We found it to be a very smooth Zinfandel.
I savored every bite of the filet mignon served with roasted garlic potatoes, asparagus, and carrots. It was absolutely delicious. Steve was excited to have two of his favorite dishes complementing each other. He ordered breast of duck with pomegranate sauce in a wine reduction served with scalloped potatoes, asparagus, and carrots. Our meal really was a gourmet treat.
Dessert was marvelous. We shared bananas foster, which was presented flaming at the table by the chef. This dish was very generous and easily served the two of us.
Madeline's is a San Luis Obispo restaurant that we can recommend without hesitation. The food is fantastic and the service wonderful. Located near the Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo wineries, this Cambria restaurant makes a great stop for lunch or dinner.
