As you walk in the door, you are greeted with an atmosphere of casual elegance. The high wooden ceilings, large windows, and pleasant décor welcome you in the dining room. If the weather is nice, many diners choose to eat among the on the outdoor terraces where they can easily view the rolling hills, colorful landscaping, and sycamore trees.
Since we were not on a wine tasting trip this particular day, we decided to try their tasting of 3 local wineries. For $15 we were given 2 oz. tastings of Concannon Petite Sirah, Livermore Valley Cellars “Sblendorio Estate Zinfandel”, and Concannon Red Assemblage. It was fun comparing and discussing the three wines as we waited for our meal. Steve preferred Concannon’s Red Assemblage and my favorite was the Zinfandel.
I ordered Mesquite Grilled Beef Filet Tips on Mashed Redskin Potatoes with Broccoli Di Cicco and Jus. Everything was full of flavor and the filet tips melted in my mouth. Steve enjoyed the Braised Beef Hash with Red Skin Potatoes, two Poached Eggs and Bearnaise Sauce. He described his food as “exquisite”.
Our waiter talked us into sharing a dessert. Actually, all he had to do with describe the choices and Steve was ready to order. We chose to share the Dark Chocolate Mousse Layered with Sour Cherries and Served with Assorted Black and White Cookies. I’m more of a milk chocolate fan, but it was delicious. There were many sour cherries mixed in with the mousse…I would have preferred fewer cherries.
This is a restaurant that we recommend without hesitation. The service, food, and atmosphere are all superb. In fact, the Zagat Survey lists The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards on its lists of American Top Restaurants
.
