We recently discovered a great wine country restaurant in Murphys called V Restaurant and Bar. Opened in late 2004 by Mary and Bob, the restaurant quickly gained a loyal following. Bob was formerly a chef at The Ahwahnee in Yosemite National Park while Mary was a bartender.

After sitting down, it doesn�t take long for someone to greet you with a glass of drinking water. Soon after you are presented with a cone full of breadsticks, cracker bread, and slices of French bread along with a bowlful of dipping oil flavored with sun dried tomatoes.

On our last visit we started out sharing their creative Caesar salad. It comes served in an edible parmesan basket, which compliments the salad. Everything was fresh and tasty.

The restaurant serves both large and small plates. Steve ordered a large plate of the daily fish special. It was fresh skate served with roasted red potatoes and fresh green beans. The fish melted in his mouth. Everything was delicious. I ordered a small plate (so I could save room for dessert). I had the seared garlic prawns with chili flakes. The sauce was spicy, but not hot. The prawns were large and full of flavor.

Steve chose chocolate cr�me brulee for dessert and loved it. I had the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, and chocolate sauce topped with raspberries. The cake was moist and really yummy. (I was glad I had saved room for dessert!)

Mary was our waitress. She�s friendly and eager to make sure you have a good time. The service was great. She came around often checking on us and the busgirl providing water never let our glasses get empty.

We�ve been to V Restaurant and Bar twice since discovering it a month ago and will certainly return whenever we are in Murphys. Be sure to call for reservations, especially on weekends. This great wine country restaurant is popular with both locals and visitors to the area. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday and brunch and dinner on Sundays.
