We have found a wonderful place in San Luis Obispo that offers unique accomodations. Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort in Avila Beach has a private hot tub for every room as well as many other amenities.
The Gardens at Avila is a gourmet restaurant right at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort. You don't need to get in your car and drive somewhere to experience fine dining. Even if you aren't staying at the resort, this great restaurant is worth a visit.

Tasting was complimentary if you purchased wine and $3 if you tasted, but did not make a purchase. We especially liked the 2004 Edna Valley Pinot Noir. It was peppery, fruity, and well balanced. Another favorite was the 2004 Paso Robles Zinfandel, which was spicy and bold. They offer a Zinfandel Port as well as a Late Harvest Moscato for sweet wine lovers. Yummy!

There are tables outside for picnicking that offer a panoramic view of the scenery. There was a $5 charge for tasting. The tasting room was sunny with lots of windows to let you view the fantastic scenery while tasting. Our favorite was the 2002 Pinto Noir which was listed in the Top 100 Wines of 2005 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. They also have Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Syrah, and a blend called Mosaico.

Noon � 5 PM This family owned central coast winery specializes in full-bodied, limited quantity wines. Wines include Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, and a blend called MultiViscosity.
Claiborne & Churchill 4330 Santa Fe Rd., San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 (805) 937-9063 Open daily 11 AM � 5 PM This small Edna Valley winery specializes in handcrafted wines. Wines are reasonably priced compared to many others in the area. We liked their champagne and their Pinot Noir. The Straw Bale Red, a Pinot Noir blend, was a best buy at only $12.50. They also produce Dry Gewurztraminer, Syrah, Nektar Sweet Riesling, and a Port. Tasting fee was $5.

Their Pinot Noir Califa is a fantastic wine accented with blackberry and a rich tannic finish. We also enjoyed the 2003 Syrah. It was bold� yet elegant, well balanced, with hints of berry, pepper, coffee, and licorice. The tasting fee of $6 included the glass.

They also have small lots of other varietals sold only through their wine tasting room and their wine club. You have a spectacular view of the Edna Valley from their wine tasting room. Tours are given hourly on weekends from 11-3.
