    Holiday Wines

    . Cabernet Sauvignon
    is a full-bodied wine that goes well red meats. Aged in oak, these wines have typically have rich cassis and blackberry flavors as well as hints of bell pepper. You can't the price of Avalon Napa Cabernet which is selling for $14 a bottle. More expensive choices that are even more elegant and complex would include Cakebread Napa Valley 2007 ($60) and Silver Oak Napa Valley 2006 ($90).

    Pinot Noir is characterized with aromas and flavors of black cherry or rose petals along with hints of spiciness or herbal qualities. We love the smooth silkiness of these wines.
    Our recommendations: Hartford Court Lands Edge 2007 ($45) or Gloria Ferrer Carneros 2007 $19).

    Sparkling Wine is perfect for celebrating with family and fiends. Ring in the New Year with one of these sparklers.
    Our recommendations: Schramsberg Brut Rose 2007 ($34.) or a real bargain from Spain, Seqra Viudas Brut Reserva Cava ($9).

    Zinfandel is a great choice for those who prefer a heartier red wine. Aromas and flavors typically include raspberry, jam, black pepper, and licorice. Our recommendations: Turley Hayne Zinfandel 2005 ($89) or Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2009 ($20).

    Gewurtramineris a zesty white wine that goes well with a variety of dishes. This wine has a spicy aroma and fruity flavors of peach, apricot, tropical fruites, and lychee. It can be either a sweet or dry wine.
    Our recommendations: Trimback Gewurztraminer 2008 from France ($23) or Columbia Winery Gewurztranminer 2009 from Washington state, a real bargain at $8.49.

    Chocolate Martinis




    These chocolate martinis are the perfect to serve at holiday parties. Recipes from Chocolate-Addiction.Com. If you love chocolate, visit this site for delicious chocolate treat recipes.

    Godiva Chocolate Martini

    Ingredients:
    2 shots Godiva Caramel Milk Chocolate Liquer
    (or substitue any chocolate liquer)
    1 shot Bailey's Irish Cream
    1 shot Creme de Cacao
    2 shots half and half
    1 shot quality vodka

    Instructions 1. Fill a martini shaker half full of ice.
    2. Add all of the ingredients to the shaker.
    3. Shake vigorously.
    4. Pour into a chilled martini glass.
    5. You can garnish with a small chocolate candy such a Hershey's kiss or a swirl of chocolate syrup.

    White Chocolate Martini

    Ingredients:
    2 shots Stoli vanilla vodka
    2 shots half and half
    1 shot Godiva white chocolate liquer
    1 shot Godiva dark chocolate liquer
    1/2 shot Navan vanilla cream cognac

    Instructions:
    1. Fill martini shake half full of ice.
    2. Add all ingredients to shaker. Shake until blended.
    3. Pour into chilled martini glasses.
    4. If desired you can pour some chocolate syrup onto a plate. Lay martini glasses upside down to coat the rim with chocolate before putting drink into the glasses. You can also garnish with a chocolate kiss or shaved chocolate.

    Tiramisu Martini

    Ingredients:
    3 shots Vodka
    4 shots Chocolate flavored Vodka
    1/2 shot Amaretto
    1/2 shot almond flavored liqueur
    milk chocolate bar, room temperature

    Instructions:
    1. Fill martini shaker half full of ice.
    2. Add all ingredients to shaker. Shake until blended.
    3. Pour into chilled martini glasses.
    4. Garnish with chocolate curls cut from the chocolate bar with a potato peeler.
