    Favorite Wineries With a View

  • People are always asking us what are favorite winery is. It's a question that's difficult to answer. We like wineries for different reasons. Some have fabulous wines. Others have breathtaking views or friendly hosts that create a fun tasting experience. There are also those wineries with interesting features such as artwork, caves, interactive exhibits, and architecture.

Many wineries have fabulous views, but these are our favorites. If we've missed your favorite, let us know and we will share our readers' choices in our next newsletter.

    Napa Valley - Domaine Carneros
Domaine Carneros sits atop a hill in the Carneros region of Napa. It's so fun to sit outside on the patio sipping great sparkling wine while enjoying the spectacular views of the Napa Valley. This is a great place to take some time to sit down and relax. Order a cheese plate and enjoy an afternoon snack to go with the wine.

Sonoma's Russian River Valley - Ironhorse Vineyards
Ironhorse Vineryards has taken full advantage of the scenic view from their winery by building an outdoor tasting area. The stunning view can be enjoyed while sampling the day's offerings. This winery is best known for their sparkling wines, but also produces delightful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

    Amador County - Story Winery
You don't want to miss the beautiful view of the Consumnes River Canyon from this winery. Story is located north of the historic town of Plymouth. Picnic at one of the tables set under towering oak trees. Bring you own lunch supplies or pre-order your picnic lunch and have your made-to-order lunch waiting when you arrive.

El Dorado County - Holly's Hill Winery
You couldn't have ordered a more picture perfect setting for a winery than the expansive view from this mountain winery. The view from the tasting room deck is spectacular. Bring your camera and a picnic lunch. Holly's Hill Winery is a small family winery that specializes in small batches of quality wine. They have lovely blends as well as Chardonnay, Grenache Rose, Grenache, Zinfandel, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Santa Cruz - Byington Vineyard & Winery
This winery is located in the Santa Cruz mountains in a tranquil setting. On clear days you can see the Pacific Ocean in the background. Bring a picnic and be prepared to relax in the fresh mountain air while treating yourself to panoramic views. This winery produces a large variety of wines including blends, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Escape from your daily stress for a wine tasting getaway here.

    Paso Robles - Veris Cellars
Veris Cellars is located on the West side of Paso Robles. The vineyard next to their historic tasting room is the Central Coast's most photographed wine property. The rolling hills covered with vineyards are gorgeous. While visiting Veris Cellar, check out the driving range. In honor of their Ben Hogan line of wines, you can pick up a bucket of balls in the tasting room and drive the balls into the vineyard. This is the only winery I know of in California that has a driving range. Forgot your golf clubs? No problem, they will loan you clubs in the tasting room.

    Great Sparkling Wine

We recently tasted a unique Sparkling Wine from South Coast Winery in Temecula. It's the first Pinot Grigio Sparkling wine we've tasted. We found this wine to be quite refreshing with delightful fruit flavors, lovely bubbles, and a nice long finish. The crispness of the wine coupled with the ripe citrus flavors creates a wonderful sparkling wine that would be perfect for a wedding or other celebration. South Coast Winery Pinot Grigio Temecula Valley Sparkling Wine is a wine that even nonwine drinkers can enjoy! For more information visit the South Coast Website.

Wine Pairing: A great wine choice for this filet of sole recipe is Columbia Winery Gewurtraminer. This off dry wine has a tangy fruit flavor. It's a lovely tasting wine at a bargain price. This is a wonderful wine to have on hand especially during the summer for sipping on warm evenings.

    2. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the parsley in pan.
    3. Lay filet of sole in dish.
    4. Layer the remaining parsley and the bread crumbs over the sole.
    5. Dot with the remaining butter.
